Visa & entry

e-Visa for short visits. To settle you'll need a residence route:

  • Golden Visa — Property, business or talent can earn a 5–10 year renewable residence.

Digital-nomad visa: available, from $3,500/mo income. Remote-work visa (1 year) needs ~$3,500/mo proven income + health insurance.

Documents & apostille

Consular legalization required. Philippines or United Arab Emirates is outside the Hague Apostille Convention, so documents need the full legalization chain, not a simple apostille.

Where in Philippines: Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) — Office of Consular Affairs, Authentication Division issues apostilles — official source

↳ United Arab Emirates: MoFA attestation done online via UAE Pass; commercial documents cost far more than personal/education documents

Arrival checklist

  • Register your address: Ejari (Dubai) / Tawtheeq (Abu Dhabi) tenancy-contract registration — the de facto proof of address; no personal residency registry
  • Get a tax number: None for individuals (no personal income tax; a TRN exists only for VAT / corporate-tax registrants)
  • Residence permit: Residence Visa + Emirates ID
  • Healthcare: Mandatory private health insurance (employer-provided); DHA (Dubai) and DoH (Abu Dhabi) require coverage before/at visa issuance

Employer/sponsor secures entry permit → medical fitness test + biometrics → residence visa stamped → Emirates ID. Bank account and Ejari need the visa/Emirates ID, so the visa is the gate — no tax-ID step.

Driving

~57 approved origins exchange directly with no test: all major EU/EEA + UK + Switzerland; GCC (SA/KW/BH/OM/QA); JP/KR/CN/HK/TR/AZ/UZ/KG; AU/NZ; CA; USA (incl. Texas + others); ZA. Others must retest.

Eligible-country holders skip driving school entirely; everyone else does full training + tests. Exchange requires a valid (non-expired) home licence + Arabic translation for some. IDP/home licence only covers tourists, not residents — get the UAE licence once resident.
