Obecný návod, nikoli právní rada — pravidla výměny závisí na vaší konkrétní zemi/státě vydání a často se mění. „Přímá výměna“ obvykle pokrývá seznam reciprocity (běžně celá EU/EHP + vybraní bilaterální partneři); všichni ostatní mohou potřebovat teoretickou a/nebo praktickou zkoušku. Vždy si to ověřte u úřadu vydávajícího řidičské průkazy v cílové zemi, než vám vyprší časové okno pro řízení.

Proč na lhůtě záleží

Většina zemí umožňuje novému rezidentovi řídit na stávající zahraniční nebo mezinárodní řidičský průkaz jen po dobu odkladu — často 6 až 12 měsíců ode dne, kdy se stanete rezidentem. Vyměňte ho v tomto okně a (pro zemi s reciprocitou) je to jen papírová výměna bez zkoušky. Když ji zmeškáte, váš zahraniční průkaz už neopravňuje k řízení a musíte složit celou místní teoretickou a praktickou zkoušku od začátku. Zkontrolujte si status reciprocity hned v týdnu příjezdu, ne v týdnu, kdy vyprší.
